History of Norway
The most famous section of Norwegian history is the story of the Vikings. The Vikings made Norway a great seafaring nation and raided foreign countries including Ireland, England, and France. At the time Norway was divided into several kingdoms and it took many years before the country finally became united in 955 AD. Norway has been a republic since 1884 when the last king was forced to abdicate due to the growing popularity of democratic values. If you are interested in the history of Norway and the Vikings, you will find a number of well-run and very interesting museums on the subject in most of the country's cities.
