How to get to Lake Garda

Considering the area's dramatic mountainous terrain, Lake Garda is impressively well connected by train with the rest of Italy, as well as Great Britain. Many low-budget and national carrier airlines fly into the various airports around Venice and Milan, with Milan’s Bergamo airport (a hub for low-fare travel) particularly easy to reach from Lake Garda. There are many well-known rental car companies at the airports, though it's also possible to bus or drive from either city comfortably in under three hours. Aeroporto Valerio Catullo, just outside Verona, is the closest international airport to Lake Garda, though the connections with the likes of London, Manchester and Dublin are not as frequent as Milan's or Venice's.

When to visit Lake Garda

For ski holidays, December to March is the time to come, although winters aren’t as bitingly cold as they are in the Alps further north.
