The quickest and easiest way to travel to Funen is by flying from a major city such as London to Denmark's Billund airport, which takes only an hour and a half as it's usually a direct flight. From here you can take a bus and then a train to Odense station, which in total will take 1 hour and 30 minutes. However, if you want to rent a local hire car and be able to explore the whole island easily and with more independence, then driving from Billund to your location in Funen will take just over an hour. Driving will also allow you to stop off at one of the many sights that you may want to see in Denmark on the way to the island.
The best time to go on holiday to Funen
If you are planning on visiting Funen during summer, then the best time to travel is between June and September, as the temperatures can reach over 22°C on average over these months. This is perfect for when you want to sit on the beach and relax in the sun and explore the outdoor activities. If you prefer travelling in quieter periods with fewer crowds, then the beginning of June or mid-to-end of September will suit you better. However, all the attractions are open during winter as well, making Funen an ideal spot for a winter break.
