Explore the magnificent town of Alcudia with holiday homes on Majorca
Majorca is an iconic beach holiday destination, easily one of the most popular in Europe, offering travellers the chance to make the most of the glorious weather. Whether at its white sand beaches or strolling through the charming historic streets, enjoying a delicious meal of fresh seafood and wine or partying all night long, Alcudia holiday homes are the ideal way to enjoy it all. Its laid-back vibe and compact size make it perfect for a relaxing holiday in the sun.
Getting to know Alcudia
There are a number of brilliant sights to see in and around Alcudia, not least of which is Playa de Alcudia, with many holiday homes found at the beach and offering the 'golden mile' of coastline on your doorstep every day. Designated with Blue Flag status, Playa de Alcudia is one of the island's finest beaches and is ideal for families. Among the sites within Alcudia itself is the Old Town, which is a medieval walled city housing gorgeous architecture such as churches and historic homes.
Choosing an independent trip in Alcudia
One of the great advantages of renting your own holiday home in Alcudia is the freedom to enjoy the exact kind of trip you want. Whether as a couple or as part of a larger group, you'll be able to shop at the grocery stores or markets and cook delicious local food, such as fresh fish and seafood with rice. Alternatively, eat fantastic, hearty cuisine at the town's restaurants and cafés, perhaps indulging in ensaimada pastries and bunyols, the Majorcan take on the doughnut. Booking an Alcudia holiday apartment with a pool, terrace or other outdoor space is another big draw, and means you don't even have to leave the confines of your home away from home to make the most of the sunshine.
Alcudia holiday homes for any kind of traveller
For a calm Majorca beach town, Alcudia still has its fair share of lively local bars and clubs for those that want them, making the town ideal for any type of visitor. Families will definitely appreciate the Hidropark, a water park which makes for a great alternative when you want a change from the beach. There's also a nearby golf course at Alcanada. The high quality of the coastline and beaches make ideal conditions for walking, swimming, water sports or simply sunbathing. On romantic trips, soak up the atmosphere of the historic sights and savour a meal by the beach and cocktails at sunset. Many Alcudia holiday apartments even allow pets, so you can enjoy walking your dog along the fantastic coastal trails.
Gastronomic excellence in Majorca
One of the very best things about a trip to Alcudia is tasting the amazing range of foods available. As an island, fish and seafood lovers will be especially pleased with the fresh tastes of the Balearic Sea. Seafood paella is commonly served at lunch and dinner, and when enjoyed al fresco with a jug of sangria or iced tea, you'll set the stage for a glorious meal shared with friends and family. Vegetarians and non-seafood lovers need not despair though, as the many international visitors that come here have led to the opening of a great deal of global restaurants, from British cafés to Italian restaurants where you can just grab some pizza. If cooking at home, check out the Old Town Market on Tuesday and Sunday mornings, or Mercadona, Bip Bip and Eroski Alcudia supermarkets throughout the week.
The many kinds of holiday home in Alcudia
There's a great variety in the types of holiday homes available in this gem of the Balearic Islands, which include generously-sized family homes and apartments, too. Many feature private pools and large garden spaces, and there are also many villas available, which can be a great choice for groups of friends looking to enjoy Alcudia together. Mixing traditional Southern European architectural flair and modern luxuries that will keep you cool in the hot summer months all mean holiday homes and apartments in Alcudia are perfect for any traveller. Some villas even house around a dozen guests, which is ideal for spreading the cost and enjoying a trip with a big group of friends, making the most of days at the beach and nights on the town together. Many of Alcudia's holiday apartments are a stone's throw from the sea.
Going beyond Alcudia
One of the excellent things about renting a holiday apartment in Alcudia is the possibility to use it as a base for exploring more of the island of Majorca. Famous for its dramatic mountainscapes, beautiful hidden coves and wild countryside, nature lovers and photography buffs will have an excellent time here. Indeed, Majorca is surprisingly compact. You can easily take a day trip to the capital, Palma, as it's only about 45 minutes' drive away on the Ma-13 motorway. Rent a car, take a taxi or ride a bus and you can check out the cathedral and other great landmarks in the capital. Alternatively, explore ancient towns such as Andratx, which is also near some of the island's best scuba diving locations.
Getting to your Alcudia holiday apartment
Flights arrive at Palma de Majorca Airport, and take under three hours from London. The capital acts as the transport hub for the rest of the island and, as mentioned, it's very fast and easy to get from Palma to the rest of the island. Another option in addition to taking a taxi, bus or private car is catching a train from Palma to Inca, then hopping on a bus a short distance to Alcudia.
The best time to visit Alcudia
Majorca is famous for its brilliant weather, and this largely extends throughout the year. Even around the winter months, temperatures rarely drop below 10°C in the day, and spring and autumn in particular are fantastic times to visit if you want to see the cultural sights and go for leisurely walks. That said, the summer heat is the big draw for many visitors, and although the beaches will be busiest in high summer, you'll also catch the best conditions for swimming, water sports and lounging by the pool. Expect temperatures ranging from the mid-20s to the 30s in these months.
